What would happen if Plainfield had a major water main break like Hoboken and Jersey City's of last weekend? Water in the streets might just be the least of it.
Hoboken residents and City Council members complained that the city was ill-prepared to communicate what was going on, what neighborhoods were affected, and what precautions residents needed to take in a timely and effective fashion.
How would Plainfielders fare if one of the water mains were ruptured? In Hoboken, thousands were left without water at all or with low pressure, as the Jersey Journal blog reported --
"One of the things that we noticed (Saturday) night was that everyone was so focused on fixing the problem but they were not informing the town constituents who are a part of the affected areas," said Second Ward Councilwoman Beth Mason.Hoboken has a website and a public access cable station.
We still don't have a working website (that's another story).
And if the news were put on PCTV-74, the cable channel, how would the thousands who don't have cable get the word? And those who use DishTV for their reception.
And then there's the issue of those who first language is not English.
You get the idea.
Don't go dragging the PMUA into this. They don't have any responsibility for the WATER SUPPLY, only WASTE.
So, it's just the City, the water company and you, dear reader.
Doesn't that make you feel good?
