If you have not yet read Bernice's post for this morning ("Give Press a Chance"), you must.
I congratulate her for taking on what has become a common problem with the communications from the Administration of Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs.
That would be the last-minute notice. Or, in this case, the notice-after-the-event-has-already-begun.
And there is a corollary - the unreturned phone call. That would be when the media are trying to get missing details to file a story and they are promised a return phone call from the Mayor's office which never materializes before the deadline.
Having worked the other side of the fence from Bernice, I know that it takes some time and effort on the part of the Administration to gather the elements necessary for a newsworthy story.
But you would think that with all the communications professionals at Mayor Robinson-Briggs' disposal the City's communications needs would be better served.
This kind of 'drive-by communications' is no communications strategy at all.
Hurrah for Bernice for drawing a line!
