Will Plainfield's transit-oriented development be 'green'?
Now that everyone is becoming conscious of the long-term negative impact unbridled development is having on the global future?
Now that New Jersey is enacting one of the strictest laws to reduce the state's impact on global warming?
Now that individual homeowners are mounting solar panels on every rooftop and even putting windmills in their backyards?
Now that Plainfield's development is preparing to take off, will it be 'green'?
Rumor has it the answer is less than an enthusiastic yes.
Seems going 'green' is not as cheap as not doing so. At least for now.
And cheap is what is on the UCIA's Charlotte DeFilippo's mind. Which means it's also on mayoral mentor Assemblyman Jerry Green's mind. Which means it's on Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs' mind. And of course cheap (call it 'cost control') is on developer's minds.
Too bad.
While a developer in Hillsborough gets an award and recognition for a LEED-certified building, what will Plainfield's Green legacy be?
