Nat Adderley, Jr., Luther Vandross' musical director for over twenty years, will headline the '3rd Thursday' concert at Plainfield's Plainwood Square Park, Thursday at 6 PM.
The concerts, started by the Plainwood Square Merchants Association, celebrating its 30th year, are on 3rd Thursdays monthly from May to October each year.
Nat is best known for his work with Luther Vandross. Nat wrote and arranged Luther’s first top 20 pop hit, “Stop to Love”, and other important Vandross songs, including “Wait for Love” and the Grammy-nominated “Give me the Reason”.
Nat also arranged many of Luther’s most popular records, including “Superstar”, “Here and Now”, “If Only for One Night”, “Creepin'”, “If This World Were Mine”, “So Amazing”, "There’s Nothing Better Than Love”, and “Love Won’t Let Me Wait."
More recently, he produced and arranged tracks on the last seven Vandross studio albums. These include “My Favorite Things”, “Going Out of My Head”, “When I Need You”, “Any Day Now” (which also received a Grammy nomination), and “the Closer I Get To You”, a duet with Beyonce Knowles on Luther’s last studio album for J records, Dance With My Father. That track also appears on Beyonce’s album Dangerously in Love, and it won the Grammy in 2004 for best R&B performance by a duo or group. In 2003, Nat produced Luther’s very last album, Live 2003 at Radio City Music Hall.
Samad Haq & The Reason Why will open the concert with their exciting jazzy flair and artistic display of musical talents.
Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Restaurants and fast food nearby. And Dairy Queen, of course!
