Martin Power, community activist

Martin was a regular at the Saturday peace vigils at the Friends Meetinghouse.

Martin Power from Plainfield Towers West died Sunday evening. Funeral services are this Thursday, July 5, at 10 AM at the Friends Meetinghouse, 225 Watchung Avenue, where Martin was an active member.

Martin had been the secretary of the Plainfield Senior Citizens Membership Organization and of the New Democrats for Plainfield, and was active in the Peoples Organization for Progress.

An active peace advocate, he had been instrumental in having Plainfield High School notify their students and parents that students could opt out of being contacted by military recruiters. Even well into his illness he participated in the weekly Saturday vigils against the war in front of the Meetinghouse on Watchung Avenue.

Martin will be missed by friends and community.
