Administration stumbles toward July 4th

Plainfield's annual July 4 parade
delights thousands every year

Central Jersey's largest and oldest July 4th parade is in Plainfield. This year marks the 84th parade.

Thousands of people from throughout the tri-county area traditionally line the streets of the parade route to enjoy the spectacle of marching bands and floats.

You'd think getting the word out would be a priority of the Robinson-Briggs administration.

Evidently not.

Bernice reported on Wednesday of last week that details would be final 'later in the week'.

'Later in the week' has now become 'the day before the Day'.

Maybe they forgot to get back to Bernice, but surely the Robinson-Briggs communications team would get the word out in the newspaper event roundups, right?

I perused the Ledger's preliminary statewide list on Sunday. Nada. But, then, there was always the day before the big day, when you could expect both newspapers to put up lists of all they knew of.

Sure enough, today's Courier (list here) and Ledger (list of 68 towns here) put up extensive lists of July 4th events and activities.

You'll search in vain for a Plainfield listing.

Though you will find it on CLIPS, under 'Happenings', where it's been posted for a week or so.

Oh, and by the way -- flags on the light poles?

Not likely, at least as of late yesterday afternoon.

Guess everybody's busy working on transit-oriented development.

Banner over Front Street helps a little
