Work on Conrail's Inman Avenue crossing in North Edison will continue to inconvenience Plainfielders and others who use this busy road until at least Friday.
Stopping at the bagel shop in the little strip mall next to the crossing was absolutely eerie yesterday. The only other vehicles in the parking lot turned out to belong to workers on the project.
A second set of tracks is being installed at the crossing. Work has actually been going on for several months in both directions near the intersection. This week's closing is to lay the last segment and repave the roadway approach to the tracks.
For those of you who think you may remember TWO sets of tracks, you are not imagining it.
The second set was removed a few years back and the crossing smoothed out.
Now the second track is being put back in.
At least it's not the government at work here.
