Questions continue about racial profiling by the NJ State Police on the Garden State's superhighways.
Today's Star-Ledger and New York Times both carry stories on North Carolinian Willie Nevius' suit filed in Federal Court Tuesday against a state trooper, alleging racial profiling.
Nevius' two-hour ordeal, in which five troopers and a drug-sniffing dog were ultimately involved, resulted in a warning -- not even a ticket! -- for a malfunctioning tail light.
Nevius' attorney wrote the State Police asking for documents and the video from the patrol cars in January.
Not hearing back, he filed an OPRA request.
Not hearing back on the OPRA request, he filed the lawsuit.
Now the State Police say they were unaware of his efforts.
To add insult to injury, the drug-sniffing dog ate an apple pie in Nevius' car.
All this comes as a commission is preparing a report for Gov. Corzine on whether to terminate an agreement allowing Federal monitoring of State Police stops.
When will we ever learn?
Star-Ledger: "North Carolina driver sues Jersey trooper for profiling pullover"
New York Times: "Driver Stopped in New Jersey Sues, Claiming Police Profiling"
