Two train fatalities near Netherwood Station

A Plainfield Today reader wrote over the weekend --

We were at a neighborhood gathering Friday night and 2 men at the party said both of their trains were interrupted last night...5:30 train, in Fanwood, supposedly a man was chasing his dog from the tracks..the dog made it, the person didn't. They halted everything and loaded one train to the other and proceeded. They said the man was killed.
Saturday's Ledger and Courier both had brief items concerning the fatality -- the man was struck and killed.

I have also learned that the man was indeed chasing a dog, presumptively his own, and that the dog also was killed by the train.

The accident occurred near the Terrill Road bridge, where high tension wires cross the tracks, according to a source.
