The Plainfield Public Library was awarded a $21,000 grant by the NJ Historical Commission yesterday. Grants from the agency help fund operating expenses of organization's promoting the study and conservation of New Jersey history and artifacts.
The Plainfield Library's local history collection is among the most extensive in the state, and an invaluable resource for those researching the history of Plainfield and the surrounding communities.
The Union County Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs received $101,000 in the same round. Plainfield resident Barbara Fuller has taken up the reins of the agency after long-time director Susan Coen retired last year.
On another front, the Department of Community Affairs announced the award of $17.8M in grants for taxpayer relief to 70 communities, down from 106 last year.
Plainfield is not on yesterday's awards list.
- Ledger: "Historic organizations receive state aid"
- Ledger: "State distributes $17.8M in special aid to towns"
- Courier: "State DCA grants aid to 7 Central Jersey towns"
