Three events today: Mapp, Van Blake, Vulcans bowling party

Plainfield Councilor Adrian Mapp and his wife Amelia will host their annual barbecue today at their West 8th Street home -- rain or shine (looks like 'shine' to me).

This is one of the summer's 'must-do' events every year as folks from all over the city come together to eat, drink and schmooze, making new friends and reconnecting with old ones.

All are invited.

Also on tap today is a 90th Birthday celebration for Plainfield tennis legend Donald Van Blake.

Friends, family and tennis fans will gather to honor Donald and his contributions to the community in a reception at the Antiques Castle at Park Avenue and West 9th Street. Proceeds of the event will benefit tennis education for Plainfield youngsters, the passion of Donald's heart.

And then you can party on into the night at the Plainfield Vulcans Bowling Party honoring recent Fire Division retirees Chief Cecil Allen and Lt. Earl Johnson as well as an acknowledgement and celebration of recent promotions. $20/person. Open bar and food from 10-11 PM. Tickets and info: D. Randolph (908) 875-9992, J. Grundy Jr. (908) 565-3949, V. Dakers (908) 397-1406.

And yes, you can do all three events!!
