Thursday night: A surfeit of meetings

All right, all you activist, gadfly and townwatcher types! What're you gonna do tonight?

In a sort of quadruple witching day, there are four meetings scheduled tonight, at least some of which ought to interest.

Interim Schools Superintendent Peter Carter will be holding forth on the state's QSAC report on the Plainfield public schools at 7 PM at the Emerson 'Swing' School. 90 minutes and out, he promises. My money is that this is the meeting the newspapers will be covering.

The Planning Board will also meet, at 8 PM, in City Hall Library. Development and redevelopmnet buffs may be interested.

Particularly striking are the dueling meetings concerning Hispanic daylaborers, both set for 6:30 PM.

Assemblyman Jerry Green and Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs will be at the 'official' meeting at the Vita Abundante church on East Front Street. I haven't spotted a flyer anywhere about this meeting, and both the Ledger and the Courier confirmed they had not -- as of yesterday afternoon -- received any notice of the meeting or request for coverage.

Meanwhile, Flor Gonzales of the Latin American Coalition has been actively recruiting attendees for her forum on daylaborer issues, to be held at LAC's offices this evening. LAC will have both immigration and labor attorneys on hand to answer questions of daylaborers and small contractors. Flor, who works on a daily basis with daylaborers, tells me there are still ongoing issues -- including Black-on-Hispanic muggings of which the public hears nothing.

See complete details on all four meetings, including locations and times in the 'What's Happening' section of today's CLIPS here.
