Commerce Bank surrenders to the Maple Leafs

Frequently found in local change - Canadian pennies.

South Avenue scuttlebutt for months has been that Commerce Bank, the South Jersey banking powerhouse, is coming to Plainfield -- to a location in the South Avenue/Leland Avenue neighborhood.

Comes news minutes ago that Commerce Bancorp, the corporate parent of Commerce Bank, is being bought by TD Bancorp, the parent of Toronto-Dominion Bank, Canada's second largest.

I hope that means I'll have some place to turn in all those Canadian pennies I keep getting in change.

And maybe they'll offer tins of pure Canadian Maple Syrup as gifts for new customers -- instead of foreign-made toasters.

Don't worry about those Canadian pennies. They're worth more than American pennies now lol
