PMUA rate-setting hearing tonight

The Plainfield Municipal Utilities Authority will hold a rate-setting hearing on the 'shared services' portion of it service offerings this evening at 6:00 PM at PMUA headquarters.

The courts have recently upheld the PMUA role in collecting solid waste in public areas (such as downtown curbside trash containers) and in removing illegally dumped articles wherever found throughout the city.

However, the proposed rate increase for this portion of your PMUA bill is 61%. If you have questions or statements, this is where they should be aired.

Owing to the weather, be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to ARRIVE A FEW MINUTES EARLY.

PMUA meetings are legendary for their brevity and for starting on time.

For more information, check the Authority website (here) or DumpPMUA (here), where you will find pertinent links in BLUE at the top of the home page.

How can PMUA be stopped. What do I have to join, who do I need to call or visit.

Dear Anon at 7:26 AM,

The first step is to attend the rate hearing tonight at make sure that you voice your concerns. Second, contact all members of the City Council and the Mayor and tell them that vote and you expect them to do something about the situation.

It's no surprise that the commissioners approved a 61% rate hike for the shared services fees. It should be noted that the record now reflects that shared services cost $5 million. When will the council step in?

The Council created the PMUA as a separate entity with the support of late mayor Al McWilliams, then a Councilman.
