Arrangements for Isidro Leonardo, murdered cabbie

Image from CBS, Channel 2.
Plainfielders wishing to extend their sympathies to the widow and family of murdered cabbie Isidro Leonardo may do so Sunday evening.

The family will be receiving friends and well-wishers at Plainfield's Salvation Army Sunday from 5:00 to 11:00 PM, according to community activist and longtime family friend Flor Gonzalez, who heads up the Latin American Coalition (LAC).

Plans are to bury Mr. Leonardo in his Dominican Republic home town, but the family needs financial assistance to transport the body, Gonzalez says.

The Latin American Coalition, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is gathering contributions to be made available for the family's use in covering funeral expenses.

Those wishing to help may send checks made payable to 'LAC' (make memo to 'Leonardo funeral') --

  • Mail to: Latin American Coalition, P.O. Box 629, Plainfield, NJ 07061; or

  • Bring to viewing Sunday evening, where there will be a box; or

  • Drop off at LAC offices, 410 Watchung Avenue during business hours
This is a tragic and very sad moment for Isidro's family, for his fellow cabbies, and for Plainfield. Any assistance will be most greatly appreciated.

You can help show that Plainfield cares.

This is in fact a tragedy and yes, it is enraging. Last time I saw Isidro was two weeks ago when he transported me from Midas where I left my car to my home on E. Front. He was a good friend of my mother's as well. My condolences to the family.
