The absence of shootings in Plainfield for almost two weeks was broken early Wednesday evening when a man was shot in the chest at Plainfield Avenue and West 4th Street.
I learned of the incident shortly after 9:00 PM, and saw that the intersection was still blocked by police vehicles shortly before 10:00 PM.
As of 10:20 PM the victim reportedly had died, making this the third homicide of 2010.
I am told the victim was known to police as a member of the Libside gang.
The question now is whether there will be attempts at retaliation.
