Plainfield saw a mini-wave of violence on Friday night, as the Courier was printing its story on crime statistics in which Director Hellwig opined that 2009 'will probably be the most successful years in recent history' (see here).
Besides the shooting on East Second Street, there were two -- make that TWO -- armed robberies with handguns on streets elswhere in the city, as well as an incident in which two Hispanic males were stabbed outside a bar on West Front Street.
Hope it wasn't the NEW bar (La Palacio) on West Front Street, which looks like its set to be a trouble spot -- another one with tinted windows so the cops can't see in from the outside.

The Netherwood section had its own crime wave last night. Various streets were terrorized by robberies and attempted breakins. The police dutifully responded and while I have confidence in the police on the street I can't say the same for their leadership or that of the Mayor or Council to do anything but sit on their hands.
There have also been, in the last two weeks, 2 cars (at least) broken into on Kensington South of Watchung - both in the owner's driveways. One was "officially" reported to the police the other "unofficially" related to a PPD officer as a friend. In both cases the owners have told this writer that the police told them that crimes like these are out of control and growing.
