9/11: A day of community service for Plainfielders

With no official Plainfield observance of the 8th anniversary of 9/11 listed in the papers or on the city's website, readers wishing to make a personal commemoration may want to take part in the Tri-County Red Cross' Day of Service and Remembrance (see more here).

Joining with other nonprofits across the country, the Plainfield area's disaster-relief and assistance agency is inviting folks to donate items needed in disaster kits which are given to victims displaced from their homes by fires or floods --
  • Lightly worn or used clothing and shoes;
  • Old Cell phones (no cords);
  • Unopened and unexpired travel size toothpaste, shampoo and other personal items;
  • Used ink-jet printer cartridges;
  • Small crayon packs (3-4 crayons in a wrapped package
Log on to www.tricountyredcross.org/ or call 908-756-6414 to make a donation. Items may be delivered to the Red Cross offices at West Front Street and Central Avenue.
