Corzine's Plainfield campaign: Stealth strategy or what?

What's with Corzine's stealth Plainfield appearances?

Plainfield votes will certainly be needed if Jon Corzine is to win re-election as governor in November. Lots of them.

So the question becomes: What's with the apparent stealth strategy?

For the second time in a month, Gov. Corzine made a Plainfield appearance, but the troops on the ground were not alerted.

Now, you would think that the Guv's team would understand the importance of 'buzz', by which I mean the enthusiasm generated on the ground by revving up the base and generating some good word-of-mouth.

Instead, we get photo ops that may look good in the campaign mailers (or on the Courier's website, where a record-busting 49 pix are posted), but leave the troops out of the picture.

Yesterday's ribbon-cutting at the new BUF preschool on Grant Avenue (see Courier story here, and pix here) is a case in point -- neither Council members nor Dem leadership were alerted that Corzine would be here or invited to the event.

For the National Night Out celebration back in August, Corzine whizzed in and out and the only ones who saw or heard were the attendees (limited because so many folks went to the viewing for the late Mayor Rick Taylor the same night).

After the NNO event, Plainfield Dems Ward 2 leader Rebecca Williams asked why Plainfield Dem chair Jerry Green had not alerted -- and invited -- the troops. She was told he didn't get any advance notice.

With the Corzine campaign facing an uphill struggle (the latest polls give Christie the lead, AND show voters annoyed at Corzine's negative ads), a staff that is being shuffled yet again, with admitted communications problems, the Plainfield appearances are head scratchers.

Is is that Plainfield Dem chair Jerry Green doesn't want or know how to mobilize the troops for Corzine? Or is it that Jerry is out of the loop?

Or, maybe, that there IS NO LOOP to be out of?

Helluva way to run a campaign.

"On the fly" just like Corzine runs the State. It's hight time we start getting rid of these self-indulgent politicians and what better way to send a loud message to all NJ politicians by throwing Corzine out. He & his administration have been a total failure.

Corzine's in,Corzine's out.Same thing with Jerry,"the puppeteer,as well as his puppet,Sharon.

Time for change. For too long Plainfield has done what Jerry has told Plainfield what is best for it.He sits as Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore.

Mayor McWilliams started to look out for the good of Plainfield, and look what Ray,Charlotte and Jerry did to him.Mr.Mapp has run into that same machine, because he is more concerned with Plainfield, and not the machine.

Vote change in November, and what will be best for our town, from the top down.Mr.Corzine does not respect Plainfield, and takes it for granted,or realizes his numbers might not be as large as they have been in the past,so he comes in for a photo shoot.

This is NOT the way to mobilize the "troops." This makes two times that the Dem city committee has not been made aware of Corzine's Plainfield visits.

Prediction for November 4: Governor-elect Christie. Reason?

The Democratic base couldn't care less about whether Corzine will be re-elected because he has done such a poor job. The low voter turnout in the primary is an indicator. More locally, Sharon Robinson-Briggs could only muster 46% of the approximately 20% of registered democrats who did bother to come out and vote. Corzine's going to need more than that from Plainfield, but he's not going to get much more. The local economy is bad, and Jerry and Sharon have done NOTHING to improve the employment situation, unless you count closing the hospital. Robinson-Briggs, Jerry Green's, and Corzine's negatives are so high that people probably will stay home. Robinson-Briggs and Green have so mismanaged Plainfield that they will probably get a lot less votes than even Corzine. And not even letting Corzine supporters know he is coming? Great strategy, Democratic Chairman Green and 1st Vice-Chair Robinson-Briggs. Your minds think alike.

Acually Dan there is a legend that Rutgers' students convinced the College's Deans that President Teddy Roosevelt was to stop in New Brunswick, around midnight, on his way from New York. Well the story goes the train flew by and many collegiates got a harty laugh that day. Could be the reverse here.

One has to wonder who the likes of Rebecca Williams and Mapp are supporting. The Democratic or Republican candidate?

The surprise would be if they were supporting the Democratic Gov.

Maybe that explains the "New" in "New Democrats".

6:38 AM: Is that you, JH?

Did you get an invite to the ribbon-cutting?

If not, is your enthusiasm being taken for granted by Green or Corzine?

Or maybe even mocked?

To 6:38am - Could it be that Rebecca and Adrian are looking out for the best interest in Plainfield and will vote for the best candidate?

Perhaps if more people were like them, and used their brains and logic in voting, instead of blind lemming-like behaviour, this city would be in better shape.

I am the Democratic Committeewoman for the 2-9, and I am also the 2nd Ward Leader for the PDCC. I am a progressive Democrat, as YOU well know, and I am supporting Governor Corzine's re-election. I have been been doing voter registration and working to get Democrats elected to office my entire adult life. In addition to volunteering on campaigns for Gore, Kerry, Obama, and Corzine, I served as Campaign Manager for the following local Democrats as well: Ray Blanco, Cory Storch, and Linda Carter. I am a longtime member of the League of Women Voters and the ACLU--I have my credentials. What have you done, aside from continuing your pathetic attempts to sow discord in the Democratic party and to jealously snipe at those of us who do the heavy lifting?

Fro the record, I was assured by the Democratic Chairman that I would be apprised of ALL Corzine-related activities in Plainfield so that I could alert the committee members in the 2nd Ward. Thus far, I have not received any correspondence, by telephone, email, or smoke signal. So, the question is...is the chairman supporting Corzine? If so, this coming to Plainfield like a "thief in the night" strategy isn't working.
