Sign justice for C.A.N.
Plainfield's Crescent area residents have noticed the elected officials' sign aggrandizement that has reached their neighborhood. And they are not happy about it.
While Mayors and Councils have always been mentioned on signs for city construction projects, some serious sign aggrandizement has been going on the last couple of years.
When ground was broken on the new Senior Center complex, pols were prominently mentioned, but did not overwhelm the rendering of the project -- which was the point of the sign, after all. And Mayor Robinson-Briggs got equal type size with UCIA chairman Charlotte DeFilippo, as you can see below.
Then there are the new signs at the city's parks and playgrounds, where Mayor Robinson-Briggs' name appears, if somewhat more discreetly than the name of the park or playground. The example from Milt Campbell field gives you an idea.
I won't touch on how unusual it is for the Mayor's name to appear on a PERMANENT sign, except to point out that this is AN ENTIRELY NEW WRINKLE, reminiscent of ideas of personal importance shared by everyone from the ancient Pharaohs to such modern figures as Stalin and Saddam.
But then there was the demolition in the 500-block of South Avenue, funded by a state bond issue. The Mayor's name took a sudden leap in significance, as you can see below. And remains framing the vacant (are there toxic substances like asbestos in that pile of dirt?) to this day.
Recently, things reached a new height -- literally -- with the plunking of the sign in the middle of the Park Avenue peninsula.
You should understand the project is the brainchild of the Crescent Avenue Neighbors and, in particular, of Maria Pellum. They are righteously indignant about having been left out of any credit for the project.
Oh, and did I mention that they are VOTERS?

& let's not forget that Sharon Robinson-BRiggs just received some sort of achievement award for some 'bogus' slide show she presented on her ideas for redevelopment.....hmm....she hasn't done any real redevelopment in Plainfield and yet she receives an award????
The award and Mayor Briggs are a joke...
Oh please like we all don't know what this is about. The Mayor and Jerry Green are trying to give the impression that Sharon Robinson-Briggs is responsible for htese projects. Which is far from the truth. Watch out you will see these projects come up again during her re-election as her achievements for Plainfield. BEWARE OF GREEK'S BEARING GIFTS.
Kind of reminiscent of her recent "I am the queen" letter to the Courier News.
I hope she does bring this up, but I don't think even she or Jerry are that lame. Thanks to our bloggers, everyone knows she had nothing to do with the redevelopment of the district, and if she brings this up, there will certainly be an uproad. One solution is to make sure there is a viable candidate to take her place. And, remember, if we can get Republicans to switch affiliaton for the primary, and then have a seemless way for them to switch back, the mayor won't be on the ticket.
Go ANNIE and ADRIAN!!!
So, when people in this city say "That's the way it is" Thank you, Maria, for showing us that with grit and determination, we can have our dream of Plainfield back. This is the beginning of the end for Jerry and his hold on this city.
Remember, everyone, vote for Annie and Adrian. Jerry did NOTHING to save Muhlenberg. A vote for Gibson and Davis are a vote for Jerry Green. He endorses them. LETS GET GOING!
