Hidden Plainfield: Faded Glory

Classic elegance, somewhat faded.

Once a neighborhood of tidy, well-kept homes, today's Hidden Plainfield finds that some are faded remnants of their former glory, including today's example.

Long-deferred maintenance leaves brick stoop unusable.

Do you know where this home and neighborhood are?

Answer tomorrow.

This is what happens when the city fails to enforce maintenance codes. If it did, as do cities like Fanwood, Scotch Plains, Westfield, etc., our entire city would be attractive and our property values would be higher. It has nothing to do with being a wealthy or poor city- it has everything to do with homeowner responsibility for their properties

I have a suggestion. Start posting pictures of poorly maintained properties around the city. Maybe that will force the city and homewowners to take responsibility and fix up these properties, many of which are eyesores that are dragging down their entire neighborhoods
