BREAKING: Two shootings on Labor Day

Plainfield did not escape the Labor Day weekend without more violence.

I am told there was a fight with shots fired about 11:30 PM on Labor Day night at East Third Street and Wiley Avenue -- taking the violence to the East End, which has so far been largely spared.

A few minutes later there was a shooting in the 1100-block of West Front Street, with a 17-year-old male shot in the leg.

As one officer said to me, 'Of course, retaliatory shootings are imminent'.

Of course.

Truthfully I believe that the perps should be afforded the advantage of the firing range and some Police marksmanship training! If they were able to actually hit who they were aiming at, in the proper way . . . there would be fewer shots fired, less collateral damage, and at least one less gang member to worry about or to lock up. And of course after the gangs play tit for tat . . . we may actually get rid of a few gangs!

I do flea markets and occasionally see gangs of ten or more hooligans walking the streets at 2 or 3 am! I would hate to get a flat tire or have a breakdown until I get to South Plainfield or Piscataway! And I rarely if ever see Plainfield's finest on patrol!
