UPDATED: Palin literally gets her wish; Congresswoman Giffords shot in Tucson

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot pointblank Saturday morning.
Plainfield may think it has seen heated political rhetoric, but nothing like that of Arizona, where Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head at a public event Saturday. More than 20 people were shot; six were killed outright, including a Federal judge.

Giffords was one of those targeted -- literally -- in a Palin poster.
Targeted in an ad by Sarah Palin's PAC -- literally, with a crosshairs graphic (above) -- Giffords was also the subject of violent language in a notice for an M16 shoot-off rally by her Tea Party opponent Jesse Kelly (see notice from the Pima County GOP website below). Then there is the 'Second Amendment Remedies' rhetoric of Sharron Angle of next-door Nevada (see clip here).

Gifford's Tea Party opponent used slogan 'Get on Target for Victory'.
Will more public figures face death threats and assassination attempts?

The irresponsible 'lock and load' rhetoric needs to be jettisoned, now.

UPDATE: MSNBC's Rachel Maddow reports on her blog (here) that Sarah Palin has pulled the plug on her 'Take Back The 20' website (see here) which targeted Giffords and others.

Let's not forget it was our own President who stated "If they bring a knife, we bring a gun". The rhetoric comes from both sides of the aisle.

No one knows the motive of this psycho killer. The media is out of line by pinning this on Palin, Beck, Fox News, etc. etc.

"Never let a crisis go to waste".

Pathetic.

You seem to forget that some cheered when they heard President Reagan was shot.

Your are missing the point here!! Hates breeds hate and Violence breeds Violence!! Ms. Palin is complicit in this shooting as is Fox News, Beck, Limbaugh and all the other Nazi's and haters in the world!! Don't run when what you wanted to happen through rhetoric and hate happens! Life is not a rehearsal it is real!

Anonymous is obviously a Palin supporter. Palin was advocating people shooting politicians they don't like and the president was talking out foreign enemies. Palin is the one who's anti-American and only cares about her pocket book and not the people of Alaska or the United States. She is a joke, so let's dump her and move on to make this country the best it can be.

Danny Boy what you are doing is called eliminationist rhetoric, the Dems blame it on the Repubs but I believe the Dems do more of it and are better at it!
Now this boy who did the shooting is suppoesed to be a fan of Karl Marx and to have read Hitler . . . sounds more like a Democrat than anyone else! How about van Jones and Bill Ayres two of Obama's idols!

Bob, are you serious that Palin was advocating actually KILLING politicians? That is downright NOT TRUE. The "crosshairs" on her maps, while I don't agree with that kind of metaphor, was just that. A metaphor. There is not a shred of evidence that the killer ever looked at that map. And no, I am not a Palin supporter, but I'm not a hater of anyone, left or right.

Anonymous @ 11:39, I hear more hate coming from MSNBC on any given night compared to FOX News. Beck advocates peace, not violence. In fact, he asks his viewers to sign a non-violence pledge. But you wouldn't know that because you have proven yourself a hater with your Nazi reference.

From what information we know so far of the killer, he appears to be so mentally deranged that it is doubtful that he had any political leanings, left, right or center.

The left is attempting to use this incident to silence their critics. That's sick.

You are attempting to re-write history Bob. It was during the 2008 Presidential campaign that Obama said he would counter Republican attacks with a quote from "The Untouchables" "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun."

Obama's reference was NOT in reference to any foreign enemy. As a matter of face, Obama uses that type of language for American citizens, not for our real foreign enemies.

Further, the Daily Kos, had a with a bull's eye on the Congresswoman's district because she is a blue dog democrat. How is that any different from Palin's map? It isn't.

I suggest you turn off MSNBC for a week and heal your heart and mind.
