A year ago, Plainfielders were coming to grips with the threat of Muhlenberg's closure.
One of the Muhlenberg workers affected was the grandmother of my godson (see the original story here).
Older, but not old enough for Social Security, her years of working in Muhlenberg's cafeteria left her with few job options.
How has she fared since then?
She has found work, but it is part-time in the cafeteria of a public school, with no healthcare or retirement benefits.
Though her reduced circumstances have made life more difficult, her religious grounding and strong family network have helped her through these difficult times.
While Assemblyman Jerry Green and Mayor Robinson-Briggs have moved on and seldom mention Muhlenberg any more, my godson's grandmother represents their REAL Mother's Day gift to Plainfielders.
Jerry and Sharon, how can we ever thank you enough?
