For Plainfielders interested in what has become of the investigation into Union County Dem chair Charlotte DeFilippo, the rug under which it has seemingly been swept was lifted slightly yesterday.
PolitickerNJ posted an item mid-morning Thursday that State Sen. Ray Lesniak, Assemblyman Joe Cryan (chair of the State Democratic Party) and Monmouth County Dem Chair Victor Scudiery are organizing a LEGAL DEFENSE FUND for the beleaguered chairwoman (see story here).
Some say that former Assemblyman Neil Cohen, for whom DeFilippo once worked and who is facing sentencing on child porn charges, is singing like a canary. He certainly should have a lot to sing about, one suspects.
Will the investigation spread to Assemblyman Jerry Green, who has benefited politically -- and personally -- from close relations with the county Democratic chair?
We shall have to see.
In the meantime, PoltickerNJ reports total contributions in the 'five-figure range' are being made by pols to the defense fund.
Does that include our friends Assemblyman Green and Mayor Robinson-Briggs, on whom DeFilippo has heaped such praise?
It will be interesting to see how much Green, notoriously tight-fisted with his money, gives to help his pal.
