Will Mayor sweep cop caper under carpet?

Word in the street is that a Plainfield police officer who is close to Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs and whom some credit as instrumental in her 2005 election, was videotaped in uniform, on duty, using a Police Division van to move personal items to a business location the officer has in a neighboring community.

And that the videotape is in the hands of the Police Division's Internal Affairs unit.

Some say the whole incident will be swept under the rug until at least after the June 2 primary, in which Robinson-Briggs faces Councilor Adrian Mapp and four other contenders.

Or will it?

I find it interesting that JG is answering these questions and attacking Dan. Shouldn't the mayor be the one to address the police issue?

And I think JG does not follow his own advice about personal attacks. He said he did not think Dan was a happy person. And that's not personal?

Word on the street? Mayor Briggs says she does not get involved with personnel matters. The irony of this is that she defends an officer who stole money from the PMUA, Rodney Sanders had DUI charges prior to this final one that lost him his job, there are two legitimate grievances filed against police officers that are on file now (learn a lot in traffic court), Plainfield officers have complained about racism in the police department and unfair disciplinary actions based on race, and officers have lied on the stand and a search of public records will reveal officers being sued now for lying. The big one is Byron Halsey who lost 22 years of his life because of the Plainfield PD. How will they build a good reputation after this? What thinking citizen wouldn't now question court decisions based on the "police work" of the Plainfield PD? There are so nay things to deal with in the PD, that this seems like small beans. No one seemed to care about this kind of thing when Mayor Briggs was driven to the A & P Supermarket in South Plainfield by one of her former bodyguards in a City vehicle. Thank goodness the Council approved her use of City vehicles, so now she doesn't have to hide.
