Former Councilor Joann Hollis passes

Ward 4 Councilor Joanne Hollis in 2005.

Word came Friday afternoon that former Plainfield Councilor Joanne Hollis has passed.

Joanne served as Councilor for the 4th Ward in the early 2000s, and as a longtime Commissioner on the Plainfield Housing Authority. For many years she was employed by Kings Daughters Day School and was a tireless champion of West End causes and concerns. Joanne was also the sister of current 4th Ward Councilor and Council President Bridget Rivers.

My condolences to Joanne's family. I will post funeral arrangements as they become available.

Dan: you and I worked at City Hall in essentially the same job, although many years separate our respective tenures. And I have lived in Plainfield pretty much all my life, as did my Mother and her Mother. When did members of the Plainfield City Council become Councilors? Thank you for letting us know about Joanne Hollis, though.

Pat -- Councilor is a politically correct, gender-inclusive word meaning exactly the same thing as 'councilman' or 'councilwoman' without referring to his or her gender.

But it would also be appropriate in a Shakespearean context.

Dan- thank you for posting my com
mment, and replying.
Councilpersom is also gender neutral, and more accurate. I did check this with with the City Clerk's office.
Whatever my quibbles, I rely on you, Bernice and Ooldoc for City news.
The cost of the delivery is probably worth far less than "The Courierr that landed on our porch, almost 70 years ago
