South Avenue businesses will be open throughout the road reconstruction project and need your patronage! |
The much anticipated South Ave road construction began today. The crews will start on the section between Terrill Road and Leland Ave. After that section is completed in about 3-4 weeks the construction will move to the section between Woodland Ave and Leland Ave. This will take another 3-4 weeks to complete.
LANE CLOSURES: at times during the day lane closures will occur, when this happens traffic will be in one direction - west to east (towards Fanwood). It is anticipated that two way traffic will resume during nights and weekends.
DRIVE SAFELY: though signage will divert traffic to North Ave, we anticipate that most motorists will choose East 7th Avenue. It is crucial that caution is used at the busy pedestrian cross-walks on East 7th at Woodland, Belvidere and Leland Avenues.
SUPPORT THE MERCHANTS: your local merchants will need your support during these two months of road repair. I cannot express enough how important it is to shop and dine during this period. Two months loss revenue can bedevastating for a small business or a restaurant.

This sounds good and those annoying and dangerous bump outs are gone. I hope residents take Seventh Street. as Plainfield doesn't have a Seventh Ave. Good luck to the people and businesses there.

sI may be one of a few who viewed the bump-outs as a unique part of South Ave. At least it was one place to drive where you didn't often encounter someone traveling at 40mph in a 25mph zone. Without some sort of speed control, cars are going to be "flying" low. Just one man's opinion!
