Nine Plainfield schools on state's 'in need of improvement' list

Nine Plainfield schools are on the state's list of schools 'in need of improvement', released by the NJ Department of Education yesterday (see press release here, and link to list here).

The list includes eight of the District's schools and one charter school.

Only two schools were found deficient in ALL FOUR categories (reading/ language arts and math, proficiency and participation rate) --

• Hubbard Middle School
• Emerson School

Four schools were found deficient in TWO categories --

• Maxson Middle School (reading/language arts and math proficiency)
• Barlow School (reading/language arts and math proficiency)
• Evergreen School (reading/language arts and math proficiency)
• Jefferson School (reading/language arts and math proficiency)

Two schools were deficient in ONE category --

• Plainfield High School (math proficiency)
• Cedarbrook School (reading/language arts proficiency)

And the only charter school was deficient in TWO categories --

• Central Jersey Arts Charter School (reading/language arts and math proficiency)

The Plainfield school district is NOT among those listed as 'districts in need of improvement' (see here), although Union County districts so listed include Elizabeth, Linden, Roselle and Union Township.
