The little sign that (really) means what it says
Plainfield's Friday afternoon rush hour was enlivened -- make that ensnarled -- yesterday with a fender-bender at the corner of Somerset and West Front Streets.
As I approached the light from the west on Front Street, I noticed large crowds of people on the corners up ahead. Stopped for the light, I could see a Coca-Cola delivery truck and a Nissan minivan had become entangled.
By the time I parked and walked back, a cop had arrived and was starting to sort things out.
The truck driver (back to camera) had planned on a right turn onto Front Street, for which he needed to swing wide. The driver of the Nissan (in checked jacket) had maneuvered herself alongside.
The truck driver evidently hit the brakes as soon as he heard the vehicles engage and cranked his wheels in the opposite direction. Shaken, but unhurt, the woman behind the wheel of the Nissan had to clamber out through the passenger-side door.
Meanwhile, traffic was bottlenecked all the way up Somerset Street into North Plainfield, down Park Avenue in Plainfield and both ways on Front Street on account of rubbernecking.
Like the little sign says...pay attention.

Unfortunately, in this town and others people will do anything to not have to wait their turn. Too many people also have broken arms or their vehicles were not equipped with blinkers.
Have a Coke and a smile
People just can't wait 30 seconds!!
I guess no one can accuse you of "stealing" the news for this blog! Way to be in the right place at the right time!
