Food from MLK event donated to StarFish

Councilor Adrian Mapp delivers food donations to StarFish.

Plainfielders rallied to support the community's StarFish food pantry with food donations brought to the New Democrats' MLK holiday potluck with 350 pounds of canned goods and packaged food items.

The items were delivered to StarFish, which is housed at Covenant United Methodist Church on East Front Street, by the club's president, Councilor Adrian Mapp.

Food pantries and feeding programs throughout the country have reported unprecedented demand in the current severe economic climate and donations are badly needed everywhere -- including Plainfield's many programs.

Here is a list of Plainfield's feeding programs, including type of service offered, locations and dates meals or services are offered. The list came about as a result of a 'Food Summit' organized last summer by Sherrie Russell-Brown of Grace Episcopal Church.

Thank you, Councilman Mapp, and your club, for the much-needed donations. Many, many families will be helped by the volunteer efforts of those who donated!

Hi Dan, a tri-fold pamphlet listing Plainfield's feeding programs has been created, for distribution to the public. I have a few more edits to make. I will e-mail you the final version for posting on Plainfield Today so visitors to your blog can download. Finally, I am also working on a statewide event, "Kids' Iron Chef," to be held Saturday, March 20th in Knickle Hall at Grace Episcopal, in recognition of NJ's new state law designating March as childhood obesity prevention month. Invitations have gone out to Mrs. Obama as well as our Governor and Lt. Governor. I will e-mail you the flyer for the event. Hope all is well! All best, Sherrie Russell-Brown
