Plainfielders are as fed up with taxes and gimmicks as everyone else.
Corzine says he takes note. We'll see.
The stem cell bond issue and the property tax relief gimmick went down in flames, justly so, in my opinion.
Not that I'm against stem cell research -- far from it. But the state needs to get its financial house in order and stop putting everything on the credit card.
And property tax relief should come in the form of real relief, not smoke-and-mirrors 'rebates'.
Years of avoiding paying into the pension plan have put the burden of making things up onto the local taxpayers (you've seen the local increases every year and we're not out of the woods yet).
We don't need any more repeats of the pension pushdown.
What people want is fiscal responsibility, not gimmicks.
Then, maybe, we can talk.
The public and the public questions --
Ledger --Bergen Record: "N.J. voters fed up with taxes, debt"
- The Public: "The day voters closed their wallets"
- Corzine: "Corzine tells the voters: 'I hear you'"
- Dems: "A sobering lesson for Democrats"
- Stem Cell Research: "Two forces combined to blindside stem cell champions"
NY Times: "Dems Grapple With Rebuke of Stem Cell Initiative"
