Plainfield's Van Wyck Brooks Historic District is hosting an impressive holiday house tour on December 9th. Eleven homes, including some of the district's most outstanding mansions, will be opened to give visitors a glimpse into Christmases of the past.
Special treats include the home with the spectacular stained glass pictured above, to the gracious Colonial that was used in the film 'Kinsey' -- and a special sneak peek at the restoration-in-progress of the Coriell mansion, slated to be Plainfield's newest bed-and-breakfast.
Trees and decorations will reflect the homes' periods, and include a very special 1960s ranch and a converted carriage house. (Will I get to see the bubble lights of my childhood Christmases? Hmmm.)
In addition, there will be displays of old-fashioned dolls, toys, books and decorations.
Advance tickets, at $20 per person, are available at Swain Galleries or by mail.
Day-of-tour tickets will be available for $25 per person at the tour's starting point, 935 Central Avenue.
