As high school students try to get into ever more competitive colleges and universities, two avenues are pursued by many: SAT prep classes (such as those offered at St. Mark's Church) and Advanced Placement courses.

Advanced Placement courses -- referred to as 'AP' -- give students a chance to do work at a college level and boost their attractiveness to college recruiting officers. Some AP classes even garner college credit.

However, concerns have been raised over whether the courses have been keeping standards up to a meaningful level.

This morning's Ledger highlights a review by the College Board and the launch of a new searchable online database of approved courses on its website.

Plainfield's four approved AP courses can be found here.
