Sam's Discount, where a gust of wind blew away half the awning. . . |
. . .and bounced it off this SUV about 50 feet away. |
Although Plainfield has certainly seen windier weather than Friday, sometimes a gust -- or microburst -- can have startling results.
The photos above were taken about 2:15 PM Friday afternoon on East Front Street, across from the YWCA.
A strong gust of wind lifted half of the awning in front of Sam's Discount Store and propelled it like a box kite, bouncing it off the SUV in the picture before depositing it on the sidewalk about fifty feet from its original location.
I saw a little later that the store owner had lugged it back to the front of the store.
Will the woman's insurance company claim it was 'an act of God'?
