Homicide on New Year's Day



Plainfield saw its first homicide of 2015 on New Year's Day.

Police responded to a call to the 200-block of Richmond Street late in the evening to find a man who had been shot.

The Courier (here) and the Ledger (here) have brief reports, indicating the victim was 20-year-old Fatin Hunt of Clinton Avenue.

There is no word yet on whether the shooting is gang- or drug-related.

Authorities ask anyone with information about Hunt's death to contact Prosecutor’s Office Detective Sofia Santos at (908) 577-4256 or Detective Robert Henderson at (908) 347-2686.

The Union County Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. Tips can be given anonymously by phone at (908) 654-TIPS (8477), or by texting “UCTIP” plus a message to 274637 (CRIMES).
