Council praises Recreation for successful July 4 Parade

Mayor Mapp distributes flags to some of the younger parade-goers.

Plainfield City Council took time out from undermining the initiatives of the Mapp administration to praise the city's new Recreation Superintendent Veronica Taylor for a highly successful 91st annual July 4 Parade and fireworks celebration.

Called to the microphone, Taylor gave the credit to the teamwork shown by all the city's various divisions, directors and employees -- mentioning the police, fire, public works and economic development personnel in particular.

Taylor's enthusiastic acknowlegment of the cooperation of elected officials and city employees led to the only round of applause in the overlong and sometimes contentious Council meeting (of which more later).
