Plainfield house featured in 'Four Houses' tonight on TLC

Owners of the four houses in tonight's episode gathered in Plainfield.

John Stewart and Craig Bowman's spectacular West 8th Street Victorian is one of four New Jersey homes featured tonight on TLC's 'Four Houses' program at 10 PM local time. (You can view a preview clip here.)

The premise of this new reality show is simple: pit four homes and their owners against each other in a competition to win $10,000 and a chance at being included in a spread in
Better Homes and Gardens magazine.

Here's how it works: The four home owners gather at each of the four properties. Three of them discus the pros and cons of the house they are in -- out of earshot of that home's owner -- and give each house a ranking for originality, style and livability.

At the end of the show, the house with the most points wins.

But there's plenty of dishing -- and fun -- along the way.

So be sure to check it out as John and Craig weigh in against their fellow contenders this evening.

John and Craig have done a remarkable renovation on this grand home which they graciously open up for the Van Wyck Brooks Chrsitmas Tour and other events so we can appreciate the architecture and history of Plainfield. Anyone who knows them knows they are all about supporting and promoting the positive aspects, architecture, and history of Plainfield. So many positive things happen here that get overshadowed its nice that Plainfield is getting on the national stage for something good. Good luck guys, we all know the house is amazing.

Plainfield has so many plusses, and the Van Wyck Brooks district is wonderful. It's often been said "People come to Plainfield for the historic architecture, and they stay because of the people."
And John's and Craig's house is simply spectacular.

Plainfield take note!!!

This is what Plainfield needs. This is Plainfield.

Friends and neibghbors, this is the kind of publicity that Plainfield should be getting. We do have issues - we are a city. But there is far more good about Plainfield than bad.

Let us not only support John and Craig for their efforts to put Plainfield on the map as a the wonderful community it is, but also, let's follow their example and each of us get the word out about this great city.

Thank you John and Craig - come on Plainfield - we can do this!!!!!

As a past winner of Four Houses, I was more than a little distraught at last night's show. I got a huge kick out of the "houseboat" but there was not a modicum of taste in either of the other houses and John and Craig's house so clearly should have won against that incredibly tacky tatooed lady's house. If you're reading this, John or Craig, you've done a superb job on an incredible house and you should be commended for it. Sincerely, Monte Mathews, Bridgehampton NY

I watched the show last night and I love John's house. It's a great representation of Plainfield. Hopefully the historic homes of Plainfield will continue to generate the kind of publicity the Queen City needs and deserves.
