A series of six workshops at the Plainfield YMCA>

Plainfield's YMCA will offer a series of six free workshops on managing diabetes beginning Tuesday, March 15.

The workshops will be run by Quality Insights Innovation as a part of the "Everyone with Diabetes Counts" program.

Workshops in English are on Tuesdays from March 15 to April 19 from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm.

The workshops are open to people with diabetes, their family members and caregivers. It will follow the Diabetes Self-Management program created by the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Individuals will learn how to manage their own diabetes and take control of their health. Participants will learn about diabetes and its risks, how to prevent health problems, the role of diet and exercise, how to deal with pain and fatigue, managing medication and effective communication with healthcare providers.

YMCA membership is not required to attend. All attendees must register by the second workshop session. For more information or to register, call Karen Hale, Outreach Coordinator, at (732) 955-8148.

The same series is also being offered to Spanish-speakers on Thursdays from 6:00 to 8:30 PM, beginning March 17 and running through April 21.
