One of several such modest late Victorian homes, this one still has its fancy porchwork intact.
By the way, the 'four' in 'petits four' has nothing to do with the English word 'four'.
These delightful little frosted cakes came into existence in the 18th century, when bakers made them after the main baking of the day and the ovens were cooling down. In French, the term means 'small oven'.
In any event, they -- and our Plainfield architectural petit four -- are a nice little treat.
Where shall we go next week?
