Hidden Plainfield: Something new for the New Year

Current Plainfield Habitat project will be completed in 2012.
As we begin the new year 2012, Hidden Plainfield turns to a new home under construction by Greater Plainfield Habitat for Humanity. Do you know where this most recent home is being built, entirely by volunteer labor?

Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, a wealthy couple who dedicated themselves to this housing ministry. To date there are more than 1,500 affiliates in the United States -- of which the Plainfield organization is one -- and 200 affiliates overseas.

Sign identifies home as a Habitat project.
The Plainfield chapter, founded in 1989, has built over 33 homes and its supporters have donated $130,000 to overseas Habitat projects, helping build about 60 homes.

Habitat homeowners, who purchase their homes at cost, must put in 'sweat equity' along with the organization's volunteers to actually help build the house in which they will eventually live.

Learn more about Habitat by visiting the Plainfield affiliate's website (see here) or drop by the Greater Plainfield Habitat's office at 2 Randolph Road (corner of Park Avenue), where you can meet Executive Director Rev. Jeremy Montgomery and learn more about how to help this vital program.

Do you know where today's property is?

Answer tomorrow.

Greater Plainfield Habitat has a model website, easy-to-use, up-to-date, and inviting.
