Holiday Opportunities: YW's 'Greens' event; Firefighters' 'Toys for Tots'; Netherwood Neighbors' Food Drive

Three more opportunities to brighten the Holidays for those in need --

WEDNESDAY: YWCA 'HANGING OF THE GREENS'
Wednesday, December 14, 6:00 - 9:00 PM. At the YWCA, corner of East Front and Church Streets (one block east of Watchung Avenue).

The 'hanging of the greens' is a tradition of the Plainfield YWCA that harks back to 1924 and marks the beginning of the holiday season. It originated when single women lived at the YWCA and gathered together to decorate the striking octagonal entry hall of the landmarked Tudor Revivial building. Though the YWCA no longer houses young women, the event continues and offers an opportunity for staff, Board and program clients to gather together to thank the YW's supporters and friends and celebrate the holiday season.

There will be music and refreshments as well as information about the YWCA's programs and an opportunity to meet Board and staff.

For more information, call (908) 756-3500 x127 or visit the website here. To help celebrate 105 years of service to the greater Plainfield community by making a gift in support of programs, call Development Director Dana Wilson at (908) 756-3500 x128, (732) 277-8184 (cell), or email her at dwilson@ywcacnj.org.
THURSDAY: TOYS FOR TOTS: FIREFIGHTERS' HOLIDAY PARTY

Thursday, December 16,. 7:00 PM - 1:00 AM. At Club Faraone's, 111 East Front Street. (Parking in the rear or on the street.)

Each year, Plainfield's firefighters come together through their various organizations to gather toys for Plainfield children and have one of the Season's must-do parties. Admission to the party is FREE with an UNWRAPPED toy (valued at $10 or more). Toys will be distributed at Fire Division Headquarters, 315 Central Avenue on Friday, December 23.

Sponsored by Plainfield FOA #207, Plainfield FMBA #7, Plainfield Vulcan Pioneers of Union County, and the Plainfield Fire Division.
THRU THURSDAY: NETHERWOOD NEIGHBORS FOOD DRIVE

Each year the Netherwood Neighbors gather food for a number of Plainfield families. This year's preparations are for about ten baskets. Each basket will include a turkey and a ham supplied by the organization. Other holiday items and nonperishable foods are sought by Netherwood Neighbors to help fill out the gift baskets.

For a complete list of suggested donations and more details, see the Netherwood Neighbors website (here) or contact Janice at (908) 757-6826. Deadline for delivery of items to Netherwood Neighbors is Thursday, instructions are on the website. They will then assemble and deliver the baskets (volunteers for those activities welcome also).
