Plainfield budget watchers' anxiety is always compounded by the wait for 'the figure'.
The figure in question being the annual municipal aid granted by the State to the City.
Comes news today via 'sources ... not authorized to discuss it' that the state will withhold $20.7 million in funds slated as state aid to municipalities, as reported in the Star-Ledger (see here).
This just days after the Robinson-Briggs administration sandbagged the Council into passing the resolution by which the administration belatedly offered its FY2010 budget, which included an airy meringue 'plug' figure of $3.5 million for state aid -- an item everyone agreed was not realistic.
As bloggers and the public have already commented, the budget crisis which is upon us has been long coming. In fact, the Robinson-Briggs administration has known of it for more than a year and a half.
Yet it is going to be left to the Wise Virgins of the Council to solve the problems left by the Foolish Virgins of the Robinson-Briggs administration.
Unless, of course, you think that virgins in politics are an oxymoron.
