CSI Plainfield: Budget crime scene

Scrounged seating was the least of the issues Thursday evening.

There have been two burning questions in Plainfield politics the past few days about the budget process.

Of course the most important is what the Council will do to strike a budget since the Robinson-Briggs administration has essentially chickened out of its responsibilities.

The second is: Why on earth have budget sessions been scheduled for the OLD Senior Center on East Front Street?

Would it surprise you to learn that the roots of the Curious Case of the Crime Scene are in the (in)competence of the Robinson-Briggs administration itself?

City Hall talk has it that a most senior Robinson-Briggs appointed official failed to give the landlord the required 30-day notice for lease termination on the
OLD Senior Center when the City's Senior program moved into its new quarters in the Monarch condo building just down the block days after the November election.

At more than $93,000 per year in rental fees, that was an approximately $7,800 goof on the taxpayers' dime.

Why not schedule budget hearings for the
OLD building?

Never mind that the heat has been shut off since the premises were vacated.

Never mind that scrounging resulted in barely enough chairs for Council, staffers and CBAC members.

Never mind that Public Works Superintendent John Louise and crew had to drag along a P.A. system.

Never mind that the building has a pervading smell redolent of poopy diapers.

Let me ask you this: If you had made a $7,800 blooper, would you call attention to it, or would you avoid any mention of it and hope to high heaven that no one else brought it up -- and certainly not return to the scene of the crime?

Ah, but this is Plainfield, where shooting oneself in the foot has been developed to a high art form.

And the taxpayers be damned.

Unbelievable! In a tight budget year don't you think someone would be salivating to finally give notice on the old lease! Wouldn't you put it on your calendar or in your tickler file????

Dan,

I was going to say "Unbelievable!"

But I can't.

BELIEVABLE!

Thank you once again Mayor Sharon and your incompetent administration. How did she even get in again? It seems those voters are getting what they voted for.

Oh My....

$7,800 would buy a lot of meals
To give away while they make deals
But instead it goes to pay the rent
A lesson learned - a message sent!

I'm sorry - but it can't be that only the same 20 people find this administration incompetent. There has to be more. Either the vote was fraudulent or we're living in the land of incompentence. It's like that episode of the Twilight Zone where everything abnormal is normal and accepted and all the normal people are being shunned. It just seems like no one else notices what's going on - which has to be impossible.
