Democratic candidate for mayor Adrian Mapp has an OpEd in the Courier which they have titled "City must rein in PMUA excesses" (see online here). It is also on Mapp's campaign blog (see here).

Funny you should mention this. I was talking with a former colleague-now client about PMUA. He is a minister in Newark. Just a general converation. When the conversation turned to taxes and sanitation, his comment was "how could Plainfield "outsource" sanitiation?" That is an expensive, and not very good idea. Its bound to increase costs and decrease service for everyone. Either Sanitation should be part of the City government, or it should be private."
The PMUA needs to be reigned in RIGHT AWAY! If City residents only knew how much abuse PMUA executives and commissioners have excercised in the past few years, they would be run out of the city and charged. It's a shame that an organization that was created for the good of residents has been abused and mismanaged at taxpayer expense.
I'm just glad residents are starting to look how we have been taken advantage of by PMUA. No other city would have tolerated this for as long as Plainfield has. PMUA will hopefully be dismantled. If done correctly taxpayers should see a decrease in their sewer / solid waste by about $40 per month or around $500 per year. Of course with Corzine's new plan, this won't be tax-deductible but it hasn't been for the last ten years. :)

I am behind Adrian on this one. If we are wasting the amount of money quoted, imagine where that money could be used. Potholes and paving maybe??
And since the PMUA has its own transfer station that a significant amount of money was spent on building...where is the revenue that is supposed to be rolling in that is supposed to be offsetting our ever increasing bill?? Are we taking in any outside trash at the facility or is it just from Plainfield??
Its about someone take on this useless, wasteful mayor and her "lunch meetings" as well as PMUA.
