Plainfield public schools begin Black History Month with a program Saturday evening entitled 'From the Middle Passage: An African American Journey'.
Featuring the acclaimed 'Jubilation Choir', an award-winning choral group of over a hundred voices and hailing from twenty-eight communities in New Jersey, Delaware and New York, the performance caps a daylong teaching unit for grades 6 through 12.
With music, narratives and images, the program chronicles the African American experience from capture and enslavement out of West Africa to the African Diaspora, including the Civil Rights movement and portrayals of influential African Americans of 2008.
This public program is the culmination of a cross-disciplinary lesson plan for Black History Month designed by Stefanie Minatee and Steve Missal.
