Plainfield High's Cardinals opened the 2007 season on its home turf, Hub Stine Field, playing against Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.
Though Elizabeth took the game (20-13), the Cardinals turned in a very respectable showing against the state's third-ranking team. (Thanks to K and J for the score!)
Coach Reggie Robinson, who was appointed by the Board of Ed last March, has been with the program for eight years. As head coach of the freshman team last year, he led them to an 8-1 season.
A 1978 PHS grad, Robinson went on to play defensive end and tight end at Boston University.
This fall marks the start of Robinson's tenth year as a business education and computer teach with the Plainfield public schools.
He was quoted at the time of his appointment as head coach as saying, "We have to get past the past and get Plainfield back to where we know it can be ... I really think that at this point, it's really more about the mental aspect of the game than the physical."
Saturday was a good start. Let's hope the local papers decide to give the team some coverage.
