Word in the street is that Mayor Robinson-Briggs will soon abandon Dudley House, the low-key substance abuse residential program which has successfully rehabilitated and returned to active life in the community hundreds of residents over the past several decades.
If she does, a staff of five will be in the street, as it is expected that the City's over-hopeful request for $2.9M in extraordinary aid will not come anywhere close to being met, meaning that jobs will have to be cut -- and these are likely to be the first.
Why, in a city like Plainfield, where a successful substance abuse and recovery program should be a beacon of hope, would you shut one down?
Why indeed.
You tell me.
