Plainfield City Hall was bubbling with gossip Wednesday afternoon that Assemblyman Jerry Green had picked former mayor and Fourth Ward councilor Harold Mitchell to replace William Reid as a commissioner on the Plainfield Municipal Utilities Authority.
Reid must resign the seat upon being sworn in as a councilor, which is scheduled for tonight's Council meeting -- to which I am headed now.
More later.

9:30 PM - Update
Mr. Reid was duly sworn in, though the Council did not appear to take any sort of public vote on appointing him to the seat. This is unlike previous situations of the same sort, where the vacancy was filled by voting to elect one of the three names submitted.
In any event, the more dramatic event of the evening was the announcement by Peter D. Dickson, Esq., who is representing several property owners impacted by the proposed expansion of the North Avenue Redevelopment plan and informed the Council that he had notified Corporation Counsel in the afternoon of the intent of his clients to sue over the study for the proposed plan.
I am sure we shall be hearing more on this matter.
