Stuck in Plainfield

Sometimes the things that get stuck in Plainfield have nothing to do with Mayor Robinson-Briggs, Assemblyman Green, the Council or any other official. Or even politics, the schools, crime, corruption or code enforcement.

Sometimes the things that get stuck in Plainfield have to do with simply not paying attention.

As in............

As in the driver who didn't pay attention to the height warning on the NJT underpass on Clinton Avenue this past week.

Maybe he was texting?

What I have been wondering is why there are no signs on Park Avenue that tell truck and trailer drivers their alternative truck and trailer routes. Now this is something that the council or the mayor could advocate for.

Post clear signs with height restrictions and low clearance ahead, and "trucker that means you" signs.:)

I absolutely agree, state highway law calls for notices xxx feet before a bridge so an alternate route can be considered BEFORE it sees the sign 10 feet away from the bridge [and later comes back to SUE the City]. Fanwood has EXCELLENT markings for parking, crossings and RR, why not us ???

truckers dont always know, where the low bridges are.the company they work for,has outdated information.and the end result is,the pics DAN is showing us.

I ran a convenience store for years that had a canopy ( large roof ) over the gas islands. I had a large amount of semi's/tractor-trailer traffic due to the fact that I was right off the interstate. I specifically got the official height from the company the constructed it and had signs posted the showed a height 6" shorter than the actual height of the canopy. Inevitably a few times a year trucks would slam into it. Everytime the truckers had the same comment..that shouldn't have happened..my truck is 13" tall and your sign says 13"1" clearance..I would them inform them that the actual clearance was 13'7" and they would usually walk away with an insurance claim and some shame at not having read the signs....People don't read signs...it should be posted, but it will happen even with the signs..thanks for the light hearted post though !!

You are so right!

Remember when they used to dangle short lenghs of chain to alert the truck driver about the height?

Had to stop that because truckers complained their trailers were getting scratched and dinged.

C'est la vie.........

Scarier thought ... how many large truck drivers don't read English?
